GH Tremezzo has become the benchmark for lakeside service and flair, outpacing its more famous rivals in Cernobbio and Bellagio. The gamut of dining options, from pizza to haute cuisine, allows for variety without ever leaving the gorgeous premises; sunset dinner on the terrace, with the twinkling lights of Bellagio opposite, is a sublime experience.
What Doesn’t:
Access from Milan Malpensa can be a slow and challenging affair, particularly after a long flight: drab hinterland, a busy freeway, and a curvy lakeside finale are all to be navigated.
Insiders tip:
Skirt around the mountain behind the hotel to the northeast, then head west through Porlezza to sneak into Lugano the back way. It’s a beautiful drive, you’ll pass one of the most lowkey border crossings you’ve ever seen, and a day in stately Lugano is well worth the trip.
